Twice the fun the LG KF600 review
Touchpads are no longer revolutionary. But they are still not flawless either. The ones we've managed to test so far have all fallen seriously short of being the best thing since sliced bread. However, our experience with LG KF600 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona revealed a huge step forward for touchpad-navigated devices. You can imagine we were more than eager to make a full review of the handset. Luckily, the pre-release unit we got was good enough for that purpose. So, here we go, now for sale at our website!

Samsung P520 Armani
If there's one thing the Samsung Armani phone has in abundance, it most definitely is style. Slim, compact and high-tech, the fully touch-operated Armani phone is not just the final touch to your look - it's the finish with a flourish. Anyway, with us the tech junky tends to get the upper hand over the fashion savvy, and we are eager to find out if there's more to it than what meets the eye. The really promising Samsung Armani phone seems the right mix between technology and looks, but we're more interested in how it fares as a gadget, not an accessory.
|
Nokia 8800 Arte, "Art of Seduction"
Stainless steel and OLED screen: there's no way a handset with that kind of features will ever blend in with the crowd of handset. Add the hefty price tag and you got the high-end biting the dust too, just like that.

Blackberry 9000?
We’re not really sure where to go with this one. An August release for the BlackBerry 9000? We’ve heard it may actually be that far away. Let us also clarify: the BlackBerry 8xxx, the one we posted from Vodafone’s lineup, and the one that appeared on eBay is what we are referring to as the BlackBerry 9000 from here on in. We initially heard AT&T would have a 6-month exclusive on the device in the U.S., and that was to be released in late May, but more like June. New information provided to us has us believing the July / August release date might be accurate. You know how we roll over here at BGR, so take this as a rumor (obviously) and don’t sell your RIMM shares just yet. Remember that the BlackBerry Curve was released in late May last year, so this would put RIM well over the one-year mark (not counting the ridiculous incarnations of the 8300-series, 8800-series, and 8100-series) for a brand new device. What you think, people? Can you wait that long, or are you jumping ship if July / August is the real release date?

Sony Ericsson goes big with the XPERIA X1
Ever wish you could grab a new Sony Ericsson handset with a full QWERT keyboard, 3.2 megapixel camera, aGPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HSDPA/HSUPA, all running atop a beautifully skinned version of Windows Mobile 6? Turns out today might be your lucky day. SE has just unleashed the XPERIA X1 at the Mobile World Congress, and from the looks of things, this is going to be one hell of a competitor. The handset sports a slide out / slide up keypad that looks like a cross between a Sidekick and an HTC Tilt, with navigation accomplished by way of a 4-way dpad and an optical joystick. The handset also sports a custom "panel interface" that appears to provide TouchFLO-like icon-based navigation. No word on price, but we should see it launch in "select markets" by the second half of 2008. Nice!

Nokia N96 almost official!
Nokia may as well be in for a major announcement with the highly debated Nokia N96 making a quick in and out on the official Nokia Germany website. Blunder or well thought out teaser, the full specs of Nokia N96 blinked briefly on www.nokia.de and then went off. Pretty cool, no?

Nokia in Barcelona: N96 leads the lot
| Nokia revealed four new phones today at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona: the highly rumored dual slider Nokia N96 and Nokia N78.
Nokia N96 has a 5 mega pixel auto focus camera with Carl Zeiss optics and powerful dual LED flash. It also records video in VGA resolution at 30 fps. The photo and videos can be watched the TV screen thanks to the TV-out support. Another loaded handset joining the Nseries, Nokia N78 comes in the bar from factor. Both Nokia N96 and N78 have a few design elements in common, starting with underlying resemblance to Nokia N81. Nokia N78 however offers stereo loudspeakers. |

AT&T Announces Major 3G Expansion in 2008
AT&T has officially announced in Feb 6th that 2008 will be a very big year of its wireless broadband networks. America's largest cellular provider has plans to expand its 3G coverage into more than 80 new cities in 2008. The target is to cover more than 350 leading US markets by the end of the year and involves rolling out over 1,500 new cell towers nationwide! An average of over four new cell sites per day is a pretty lofty goal but apparently AT&T is up to the challenge.
|
Nokia N82 Black version pops up!
Nokia N82, a phone we received in detail, is pretty much identical in hardware to the N95 it has 5 megapixel autofocus camera with Carl Zeiss optics, capable of capturing 30fps MPEG4 videos at VGA resolution, and has a TV-out port to watch those on your TV set. You also have a built-in GPS receiver that works with Nokia Maps. Compatibility with third party software is not confirmed yet.

Samsung F490 Touch Screen
You don’t need to be a prophet to be able to tell that for most mobile phone vendors, this year will be the year that they are able to start really competing with the iPhone. Each one of them is reacting to the success of Apple in one way or another, and presenting their own version of “iPhone killer/wannabe” to the market. Even if competing with the iPhone isn’t the company’s intention, the users will do it for them anyway, drawing comparisons between the iPhone and any phone at least a bit similar to it – especially the ones with a touchscreen.
